What is the Back to Education Initiative?

The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) is a flexible, part-time training programme providing opportunities to return to learning for young people and adults.It is a re-entry route for those in the workplace who wish to upgrade their skills in line with emerging needs.

With its emphasis on part time provision, it provides the chance to combine a return to education and training with family, work and other responsibilities.


Who can take part?

Any person who has left full-time education can apply to take part in a BTEI course.  However, priority will be given to people with less than a Leaving Certificate standard of education.

Why take part in a BTEI Programme?

Courses are arranged to meet the particular needs of participants and can be offered in the mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends at various locations around the county.


How much does it cost?

Those in receipt of unemployment payments or means tested social welfare benefits, and holders of medical cards along with their dependants, are entitled to  free tuition.  Other unwaged participants who did not complete the Leaving Certificate will be entitled to a reduction in fees.
